final blog








over the past two months a lot has happened to my level, I have completed my storage room which has weapons and a modifier in, the room consists of BSP geometry and some basic assets such as wires, pallets and barrels its not over populated and has a nice low fog effect in the room, on the outside I have made a make shift walk way out of planks and scaffolding assets to get on the roof where jump thighs are placed. Next I tweaked the area of the billboard which can be walked around such as widening the planks and adding some health and armour as its a hidden area. thirdly I removed vents and added in water tanks and fences to give it a factory style, I also added the floats to the roof top to make out that they were more balloons to represent the parade. I added the path nodes and player starts at the end so I knew where to place them and what was able to climb on to. I also added the built city that is already in udk to give it a feeling of being in a city and then I added the fog which now slight over powers the level. The project schedule has been changed twice due to assets and asset placement this is because of the fog and as having fog was making my level unique I had to keep it so I changed the schedule around the fog instead of removing it.

25th march



today i have done all the stairwells to the rooftop and also changed some of my schedule and certain assets that wern't in my final plan and i will need to edit them at a later date, also i have textured the small wall around the edges of the rooftop so players wont fall straight off. i have to fix the bot paths as they wont go over the balloons. and finally i have put a billboard in the top hand corner of the map with scaffolding and a plank bridge for cover and thigh jump pad. next week i need to make for definate air conditioning and also model a elevator after that i need to place ammo drops and weapons.

18th march


today i textured my parade balloon which took awhile to get it correct and the other thing i did was the toggles wo when i jump on the balloon it goes down and then back up and when i jump up and down on the actual balloon it goes up and down. and also i did the first roof top stair well which will be locked so no one can open it, im quite on schedule with my level design i think about 2 weeks and i should be done.

11th march



this week i have finally finished the texturing of my level such as paralax mapping my building window and also the concrete floor, at the moment im on schedule, there are a couple of things i have added to my asset list such as fire escape and scaffholding. over the next couple of weeks i need to model certain assets such as my destroyed generator out building for the roof, my elevator shaft and also the large centeral aircon fans and pipes and a wall to border the top of the roof i will source some barrels or use the one in UDK to save time and also in that time i need to make a certain area very detailed so i can use it as a bench mark.

saved up notes over the past two weeks.



over the past two weeks i have now finished white boxing my level so i know where to place my assets once finished, i have also sourced a billboard as a scenery asset which looks really nice and gives the level a bit more of a new yorkish feel, also i have finally made my fire escape scenery asset, however i have made the bars for the rails that connect to the building a tad to short so i thought (in new york things like fire escapes are sometimes a bit destroyed so i lent them forwards to give it a look like its ready to fall. Also tom my class mate had made some interesting scaffolding which i thought i could use to my advantage whichi have so far as i have put it on the area near the single billboard to give the apperence that the area is under slight construction or near finished construction and jack has also done the texture pack for us to use in my level such as the textures for the main buildings but that will slightly change due to me paralax mapping some window textures to make it look like appartment buildings and finally i sourced some balloons for the parade in which they will be used as a animation to create a distraction/ slight cover. i am slightly behind on my schedule for my assets

what i'm going to make.

I am going to develop a level in UDK called parade day. This idea came from certain level requirements and specifications from Dave. Dave stated that it must be a modern New York rooftop and consist of up to 8 players. As a group we got assigned different assets such as i got assigned debris and a fire escape.
This week I created the collision volume for the fire escape and also white boxed the rooftops and added in bot paths.

Next week I am going to create t.v. aerials and stair well to the roof.
